The Photos You Didn’t Know You Needed: The Details You’ll Treasure...
Over the next few weeks, I’m sharing a series called The Photos You Didn’t Know You Needed — moments from small weddings that couples often don’t realise are happening at the time. The laughter, the pauses, the quiet details… the photographs that bring the feeling of the day rushing back, years later.
When people think about wedding photography, they usually picture the big moments first.
The ceremony.
The kiss.
Family photos.
Friends laughing together.
And yes — those photographs matter deeply. They’re the heart of the day.
But when I photograph a small wedding, I’m always paying attention to something else too…
The quieter moments.
The little details.
The things you might not even notice at the time — but will mean everything when you look back.
Because small weddings aren’t just smaller versions of big weddings.
They’re often more personal. More intentional. More emotionally rich.
And it’s those tiny, thoughtful pieces that tell the full story.
The Sister Who Couldn’t Be There — But Was Still Present
Maybe it’s a video call to someone overseas.
A sister watching from the other side of the world.
A loved one smiling through a screen.
It’s not something you planned as a “photo moment”…
But one day, that image will remind you that love still showed up, even from far away.
The Shoes You’ll Never Wear Again
The special heels you chose just for this day.
Maybe they weren’t practical.
Maybe they hurt by hour two.
But they were part of the feeling of becoming a bride.
Those little choices matter — even if they only appear once in your life.
The Jewellery That Held Meaning
Earrings gifted by someone important.
A necklace passed down.
A bracelet you wore because it felt like comfort.
These are the pieces that become part of the memory.
Not just what you looked like…
But what you carried with you.
The Flowers That Won’t Last — Except Here
Your bouquet will fade.
But the photograph won’t.
The colours, the softness, the care you put into choosing something beautiful for this one day…
That deserves to be remembered too.
The Garter. The Handkerchief. The Pieces of Someone You Miss
Sometimes, the most emotional details are the ones no one else sees.
An embroidered garter that belonged to your mum.
A handkerchief tucked away quietly.
Something small, but filled with meaning.
These details aren’t just pretty.
They’re connection.
They’re legacy.
They’re love.
This Is Why I Photograph the Details
Couples don’t always realise I’m taking these photos.
But I do it because I know what happens later.
Years from now, you won’t only want to remember how the day looked…
You’ll want to remember how it felt.
And often, it’s the small things that bring it all rushing back.
That’s the beauty of intimate weddings.
They’re made of moments — and memories — you didn’t even know were happening.
A Little Series Coming…
I’ve been thinking about sharing more of these “behind the scenes” photographs I capture at small weddings…
The ones couples never expect.
The ones that quietly become the most treasured.
So over the next few weeks, I am going to write a little series about the details that matter — the hidden moments, the personal touches, the photographs that tell the fuller story.
Because small weddings deserve to be remembered in full.
Not just the ceremony…
But everything in between.
