The Moments You Don’t Plan For (But Never Forget)
One of the things I love most about small weddings…
Is that the day isn’t rushed.
There’s room to breathe.
Room for real moments.
Room for the unexpected little memories that happen in between.
And those are often the photographs couples treasure most.
Not because they were perfect…
But because they were true.
The Rings — Small Objects, Big Meaning
Wedding rings are tiny.
But they hold so much.
A promise.
A commitment.
A new chapter beginning quietly, right there in your hands.
I always photograph them, because years from now, you’ll remember exactly how it felt to put them on.
When the Bridesmaids Escaped to the Car
Sometimes the most memorable part of the day is…
the heat.
The laughter.
The moment the bridesmaids disappeared into the car, turned the air conditioning on full blast, and just breathed for a minute.
It wasn’t glamorous.
It was real.
And it’s the kind of moment that makes you smile forever.
The Calm Before Getting Ready
I love this moment — robes on, sun on your skin, a pause before everything begins.
Not dressed yet.
Not “on show” yet.
Just a quiet little pocket of stillness before the day unfolds.
Small weddings are full of these pauses.
The Groom Checking on His Four-Legged Best Friend
This one gets me.
In the middle of everything…
He took a moment to check on his dog.
Because that’s family too.
And small weddings allow space for those reminders — that love isn’t just about the couple.
It’s about the life around them.
Cousins, Kids, and the People in Between
The ceremony matters.
But so does this.
Cousins cuddling.
Kids wandering.
Family simply enjoying being together.
These are the photographs that become part of the story — the ones you didn’t even know were happening.
And Then… Celebration
The part where it all lifts.
The bride laughing, dancing, celebrating with friends.
That’s the magic.
Not staged.
Not posed.
Just joy.
This Is Why I Photograph the In-Between
Small weddings aren’t only about what happens at the front.
They’re about what happens everywhere else too.
The quiet.
The funny.
The personal.
The real.
And those are the moments that bring the day back to you, years later.
A Little Series Coming…
I’ve been thinking about sharing more of these “behind the scenes” photographs I capture at small weddings…
The ones couples never expect.
The ones that quietly become the most treasured.
So over the next few weeks, I am going to write a little series about the details that matter — the hidden moments, the personal touches, the photographs that tell the fuller story.
Because small weddings deserve to be remembered in full.
Not just the ceremony…
But everything in between.
