Who Says The Groom Won't Cry?

It's become a little tradition at my weddings.

Before the ceremony, I'll quietly ask the groom,
"So... are you going to cry when you see her?"

Without fail, almost every one of them smiles and says...

"Nah... not me."

And then...

The music starts.

Everyone stands.

She appears.

And suddenly those tough exteriors disappear.

Sometimes it's tears.
Sometimes it's a huge grin.
Sometimes it's simply taking a deep breath because the moment has finally arrived.

We spend so much time talking about the bride—and rightly so.

She has the dress, the flowers, the hair and makeup, the excitement of getting ready with her bridesmaids.

But what about him?

He's been getting ready too.

His mates are helping with ties and buttonholes.
There's plenty of joking around.
Maybe a quiet whisky.
Maybe a few nerves hidden behind a laugh.

And then comes the moment he's been waiting for.

The first glimpse of the woman he's chosen to spend his life with.

As a wedding photographer, those few seconds are some of my favourites.

They're completely genuine.
There's no posing.
No direction.

Just real emotion.

Whether it's a tear, a laugh, complete disbelief, or that little smile that says everything without a single word...

Those are the moments I never want a couple to forget.

Because your wedding day isn't only about how the bride felt.

It's about both of you.

And sometimes...

The groom is the one who steals the show.

A little tip from someone who's photographed a few weddings...

If your schedule allows, don't skip the groom's preparations.

Those quiet moments with family and friends, the nervous smiles, the last-minute jokes, and the anticipation before seeing your partner for the first time become part of your story too.

Years from now, you'll both be grateful those memories were captured.
