The Groom Who Wore Gumboots on His Wedding Day

Not every wedding day goes exactly to plan.

And sometimes… that’s where the real story begins.

A few days before this wedding, the area had just been hit by a cyclone. Trees down, major flooding and debris everywhere .The wedding site needed attention before the day could even begin.

While most grooms are getting ready with their groomsmen, this groom and his ‘team’ were outside cleaning up the property.

Doing what needed to be done so the day could still happen.

And on his feet?

A pair of Red Band gumboots.

If you’re from New Zealand, you’ll know exactly what these mean — practical, dependable, and ready for whatever the land and weather throws at you.

Eventually the couple made the call to relocate the ceremony.

Plans changed.

The day adapted.

But the wedding still went ahead, surrounded by friends, laughter, and the kind of stories people tell for years afterward.

And those gumboots?

They became part of the story.

Because weddings aren’t really about perfection.

They’re about commitment, resilience, and showing up for each other — even when life throws a cyclone into the plans.

Sometimes the photos that matter most are the ones that capture the unexpected, and bring back memories of the day.

And this was definitely one of them.
